Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths that develop within the uterus. They consist primarily of muscle and fibrous tissue and can vary significantly in size, number, and location. These growths are quite common, affecting an estimated 80% of women by the age of 50. While many women experience no symptoms, fibroids can cause a range of issues, including heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, and pressure on the bladder or rectum. The exact cause of fibroid development remains unknown, but factors such as genetics, hormones, and environmental influences are believed to play a role.

Symptoms of Uterine Fibroids

Heavy menstrual bleeding

Pain and pressure in the pelvic region

Frequent urination

Bulging abdomen

Painful sexual intercourse

Constipation

Pain in lower back

Non-Surgical Approach to Treating Uterine Fibroids

Our proven, effective treatment targets fibroids directly, without the need for cuts or damage to the uterus, preserving it and avoiding the need for a hysterectomy

What is Uterine Fibroid Embolization?

Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) is an interventional radiology treatment for uterine fibroids that preserves the uterus. UFE works by blocking the blood supply to the fibroids, causing them to shrink. During the procedure, your doctor accesses the artery through a small puncture in the wrist or groin and uses a continuous x-ray technique known as fluoroscopy to navigate a catheter to the fibroids. Once the fibroid is pinpointed, embolic agents—tiny gel-like microbeads—are administered to obstruct the blood flow, leading to its shrinkage.

One of the best choices I've made!

After being diagnosed with uterine fibroids, Taniqua was initially told that hysterectomy was her only treatment option. Luckily, a friend told her about uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), a non-surgical, FDA-approved alternative to hysterectomy.
