Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a common foot condition caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot. It typically results in sharp heel pain, particularly noticeable with the first steps in the morning or after prolonged sitting. This condition is often associated with excessive physical activity, improper footwear, or structural issues in the foot.

Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis

Persistent heel pain, especially with the first steps in the morning or after periods of inactivity.

Sharp, stabbing pain or a dull ache in the heel.

Pain that worsens with prolonged standing or walking.

Tenderness and swelling in the heel area.

Traditional treatments such as corticosteroid injections, physical therapy and orthotics are not helping.

What is Plantar Fasciitis Embolization?

Plantar Fasciitis Embolization (PFE) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat chronic heel pain caused by plantar fasciitis. Through a small puncture in the artery of the groin, the doctor uses x-ray guidance to direct a thin catheter to the blood vessels that supply the inflamed area of the foot. Tiny particles, or microbeads, are then carefully injected to normalize the blood flow to the inflamed tissue thus reducing inflammation and pain.
